Hair Dye Leaves Permanent Tattoos on Scalp

By Tina May

Last Friday it was revealed that certain Loreal hair dyes lead to permanent discoloration of the skin. The makers of Loreal are rushing to learn what causes this phenomenon that, up until recently, has not been a problem.

"This is news to me," said Dr. Ackhins of Loreal's laboratory. "My wife has been dying her hair for at least ten years and she's never had a problem with her scalp becoming darkened as well." Dr. Ackhins has been with the company for seventeen years. "Our recipe has not changed drastically within the last five years. We're working diligently to isolate the issue and resolve it."

Over the past five 8 days, Internet forums for hair styling have had more and more users revealing their frustration with the dye. One user writes, "I followed the directions aside from not using the toner, and my scalp has become more brown. Being a natural red head with fair skin, it's rather noticeable. What's the deal, guys?" Her entry sparked responses nearing fifty in number with others complaining of similar problems with Loreal’s dyes. Surprisingly, the more exotic colors are not being logged as part of the problem.

Dr. Ackhins explains, "The more outlandish dyes you see sold in the are made of different, less extreme chemicals because they are not permanent. They bind to the hair stand in a different fashion. The dyes with the biggest problems are the permanent colors that tend to look more 'natural.' I would be interested in seeing these dyed heads; the patterns must be quite interesting!" Those affected do not seem to think the same way as the doctor.

Loreal scientists and researchers are still trying to find the issue. As of now, all dyes have been taken off the market and those who have purchased/used the dye are being compensated.
